TRANSLATION
Of all forms of worship of the Lord, love is the best.
1) Lord Krsna renounced the delicacies that Duryodhana offered, and ate vegetables at Vidura’s house.
2) As Lord Ramacandra, He ate fruits which were already filled with love from Sabari.
3) Love is indeed the best way to serve and please the Lord.
4) In Maharaja Yuddhistira’s Rajasuya Yajna sacrifice, Lord Krsna served the brahmanas and picked up their eating plates.
5) Out of pure love for Arjuna, He took the position of being his charioteer, and He forgot that He was the Lord.
6) Such love did Lord Krsna portray in Vrndavana when He danced with the gopis in the rasa lila.
7) Sura Dasa asks, “In what way could I worship the merciful and magnanimous Lord?”
Applicable For All Situations And Ages
His Poems are noted for its moral values and the philosophical teachings which are applicable for all situations and ages by short episodes from the life of Krishna.
First
It is one of the marvels in the realms of literature how a blind poet could portray in such meticulous and colourful detail the childhood of Krishna, stage by stage. Krishna's cutting his first tooth, his uttering of the first word, his taking the first step unaided, are all occasions for Surdas to compose inspired songs which are sung even to this day, in hundreds of homes, by mothers who see child Krishna in their own children.
Beyond Marriage
Surdas never entertained any idea of marriage but saw in Sri Krishna the eternal lover and he portrayed the love between Radha and Krishna as ethereal love-the irresistible attraction the individual soul has for the Oversoul or of the Jivatma for the Paramatma.
love that had been denied to him
The love that had been denied to him as a child flows by means of his songs on, the love that was showered on Bala Gopala in Braj by Yashoda, Nandagopa, the Gopis and the Gopas.
Contribution to Language
The works of Surdas improved the standard of Brij Bhasha from a primitive language to that of a formal language of great repute , raising this dialect to a literary status..
Jayanti
Surdas Jayanti is the Holi appearance day of a great devotee-poet of Lord Krishna, Saint Surdas. It falls on Shukla panchami, the fifth day of waxing moon in the month of Vaishakh (May-June).
Celebrations: The appearance of Surdas is celebrated in great pomp in Braj and Vrindavan. Thesongs composed by Surdas are sung. Seminars are conducted and discourses are given on the life and preachings of Saint Surdas.
